About the Elgin Poet Laureate Project 

The Elgin Poet Laureate Project celebrates the heritage, culture, and diversity of the City of Elgin through the art  and appreciation of poetry, by selecting and equipping a Poet Laureate whose work will achieve the following  outcomes. 

• Enhance the experience of local events with poetry. 
  
• Celebrate Elgin’s past, present, and future by adding to a lasting legacy of written poems.
• Bring people together through a shared experience of poetry. 
• Instill an appreciation of poetry as an art form and as a means of self-expression. 
• Strengthen community partnerships through project collaboration.
• Encourage and inspire others to identify and fulfill their creative goals.
